"HE IS FAITHFUL"
Lamentations 3:19-24

Remembering mine affliction and my misery -- in chapter 1 of Lamentations, Jeremiah had talked about the affliction of Jerusalem. In chapter 2 he had talked of God's anger with Jerusalem. However, when we come to chapter 3, we will see Jeremiah's anguish.

Jeremiah gave his personal testimony. He, as well as the people, had felt forsaken by God. He remembered his affliction and misery, the wormwood and the gall. This was a very painful experience and this had brought him to the point of despair. Verse 21 seems to be his turning point: This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. He said: "It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not".

Everyone has times of discouragement, depression and even despair. This is when we need to remember to cling to God's faithfulness. God's faithfulness is a commitment on His part and is as dependable as the scheduled appearance of the sun and moon - "new every morning".

Great is thy faithfulness! The meaning of faithfulness is "certainty and dependability". It describes who God is. He is steadfast and trustworthy. He keeps His promises. What a comfort to Jeremiah and to us to experience God's faithfulness.

The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in Him.

My hope is in Him,
